Fitch Affirms City of Poznan at "A-'; Outlook Stable

14 October 2016: Fitch Ratings has affirmed the City of Poznan's Long-Term Foreign and Local Currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) at 'A-'. The outlook is stable. "A-" rating is the highest  among Polish cities rated by Fitch, equal with the rating of Poland. This means that the City has a high capacity to discharge its financial liabilities. The stable outlook indicates that in the nearest future the financial credibility of Poznan should not change.

The affirmation reflects Fitch's unchanged view about the city's strong operating performance, moderate direct debt, a high self-funding capacity of investments as well wealthy economy that is well-diversified across sectors, the GDP per capita that is 2x higher than the national average and the unemployment rate that is the lowest among Polish cities.

Fitch points out that the ratings could be upgraded if the City of Poznan maintains a sound operating performance leading to debt payback below three years on a sustained basis and provided the sovereign rating (A-/Stable) is upgraded.

The credit rating is an independent opinion, that determines the creditworthiness of the rated entity. It reflects the overall ability of the entity to meet its general financial commitments or it concerns a specific issue or a financial program. The main purpose of the rating is to inform current and prospective investors of the reliability and financial solvency. The credit rating allows the entity for an easier and wider access to financial markets and to obtain external capital on more favourable terms.
