This is the seventh time that Poznań organises the International Ice Sculpture Festival. The largest event of this type in Europe attracts the greatest ice sculptors to the city. Their works will be exhibited on the Old Market Square on the weekend of 8 and 9 December.
The International Ice Sculpture Festival has been held in Poznań for 7 years. Each year it attracts the most renowned artists from around the world, whose works can be admired on the Old Market Square by thousands of Poznań residents. More than ten tonnes of ice are used during the weekend to enchant the residents and visitors with their unique show of icy works of art.
The seventh edition of the festival will be held on the second weekend of December (8-9.12). At the same time, on the Old Market Square, the representative part of the city, you will be able to see live how those incredible sculptures are made. The event is visited by the most talented artists and masters of ice sculpture. There will be delegations in Poznań from eight countries: Poland, France, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, USA, Canada, Russia and even the Philippines.
Speed Ice Carving - 8 December, Main Stage - the most spectacular competition of the festival. An individual competition for sculptors who have several minutes to copy the model presented during the contest. Everybody must use an identical block of ice. The most faithfully-copied pattern wins. Visit the Old Market Square and see how quickly an ice sculpture can be made. Support the best! These sculptures (approximately 40) will decorate the Old Market Square.
Main Contest - 9 December, Old Market Square. 12 double teams, several tonnes of ice, free choice of topic. All teams have a whole day to make sculptures of a dozen metres or so. The contest has its own unique atmosphere, thanks to the charm of the Old Market Square and the upcoming holiday atmosphere. The winner will be chosen and the award ceremony will be held on the evening of the second day at 7 p.m. Additional points will be given to projects with a Christmas theme.
