Information about the city:
Jyväskylä was established in 1837. It was the home of the first Finnish language schools in Finland. The architect Alvar Aalto lived here and there see over 30 examples of his work in the city including the university building. Today, Jyväskylä is the centre of the administrative province of Keski - Suomi. It has well - developed industries including cellulose - paper, wood, metal, pharmaceuticals and Nokia mobile phones. The city is an important business centre with many fairs and conferences being held there. There are a number of univerities with 35,000 students living in Jyväskylä. Other facilities include a teacher training college and a centre for continuous professional development. Jyväskylä hosts many music festivals and has many sports facilities, especially for winter sports. There is also an annual car rally which has been held for almost fifty years.
