The name Pozuelo first appears in documents from the reign of King Alfonso VIII in the 13th century. The city's location near the capital of Spain led to it being involved in a number of historic events. The close proximity of Madrid has had a positive effect on the development of the city. Amongst other things it has led to the construction of beautiful new housing districts. The city is a centre of science and culture and is home to the University Complutense and a college of managment and marketing.
