Be a Mentee

New to Poznan? Looking for some help getting used day-to-day life in the city? Confused by the language? Looking for a friendly face? Would you like to meet regularly with a Mentor who can support you, suggest and share their own experience, or simply help you practice the language? The MIP mentoring project aims to assist newcomers in Poznan to integrate into life in the city.

Be a Mentee

There are many different aims of mentoring, including:

  • assistance in using public services, for example: transport (PEKA, where to check the schedule of public transport, how to buy a train ticket and TD), or doctor, offices,
  • developing social skills - adapting to Polish culture (taking into account possible cultural differences, how to behave in particular situations,etc),
  • practice of the Polish language (or learning basic and useful phrases),
  • getting to know the city (where better to go to eat something good, where to do shopping, as well as what are the cultural events, places worth seeing),
  • support in learning (homework, university responsibilities),
  • emotional support, having a familiar face in the city,
  • and many other things that may be useful when we're in a new place recently.

Who can become Mentee?

Everyone who:

  • is a foreigner,
  • recently arrived to Poznan, is open to new friendships, wants to get used to the life in Poznan,
  • need support which can not find elsewhere (eg at the university),
  • is ready to participate in meetings at least once a week (1h-1.5h) from March to June,
  • does not know well the city, culture and language.

What are the responsibilities of the Mentee?

  • participate in the introductory meeting with the project coordinator,
  • together with the project coordinator and Mentor define the goals and priorities of the cooperation that will be implemented during the project,
  • meet at least once a week with Mentor (1-1.5h),
  • remember that a Mentor is a volunteer and do not overuse the relationship,
  • inform the mentor about the reasons of cancellation the meeting at least 24 hours in advance,
  • inform the project coordinator / Migrant Info Point office in case of any problems.

Why it's great to be a Mentee?

  • you will meet new people, discover interesting places and get used to the life of the city,
  • you will improve your knowledge of Polish language,
  • you will be provided with the necessary knowledge and possible support while using public services (transport, doctor, offices),
  • you will get to know Polish culture and traditions better,
  • you will receive support and find a friendly soul in Poznań.
