Spanish students are the winners of Poznan's EURO 2016!

98 players from 24 countries competed yesterday in the fifth edition of international students' football tournament EUROASMUS AND FRIENDS CUP 2016. Students from Spain emerged victorious after 10 hours of playing and 24 matches, in which 80 goals were scored.

The tournament was organised by the City of Poznan as part of the Academic and Scientific Poznan programme, with the assistance of the Adam Mickiewicz University, the Poznań University of Medical Science, the Poznań University of Economics, the Academic Sports Association of the University of Economics and Erasmus Network Poznań United. The tournament has been a constant element of an academic sports calendar in our city for 4 years. 10 national teams consisting of students from Poznan universities took part in the competition for the Cup. In group A, the following teams competed to advance to the next stage of the tournament: Croatia, Iran, France, Spain and Ukraine, and in group B - Belgium, Georgia, Iceland, Germany and Poland. The following teams took the tournament's pitches by storm at this stage and advanced further: Iran, Spain, Poland and Iceland. These teams then faced each other in semi-final matches. The winners of the semi-final matches were Iran and Spain, and the battle to become the tournament's champion was fought between them. Spain won the final, defeating its opponent 4:2 and thus becoming the new champion of EUROASMUS AND FRIENDS CUP 2016. The third place of the podium was awarded to the Poles, who in a "consolation final" decidedly beat Iceland 5:2. Roman Hrynko from Iran was awarded the title of the Most Valuable Player, and Patryk Guzikowski from the Polish team was selected the Best Goalkeeper. The prize for the best dressed team was awarded to Iran. All participants, regardless of the ranking of their teams, received tournament T-shirts as keepsakes. Because it was a tournament of an international status, national anthems were played before the matches, and players were escorted to the pitch by children from Lech Kindergarten no. 119 in Poznań. The tournament was a whole-day international picnic and the Organisers additionally prepared a barbecue for all participants.
