History of preparations
The 3rd January, 2006
On the 3rd January 2006 the city of Poznań entertained the representatives appointed by the Prime inter-Ministerial team for the European Football Championship of 2012. During their visit to Poznań the guests, amongst other things: watched a multimedia presentation of Poznań, visited the city stadium by Bułgarska Street, Ławica Airport, and also potential locations in the city where fans could watch European Championship matches in 2012 on large screens, including: Wolności Square, regatta course "Malta", Łęgi Dębińskie, Adam Mickiewicz Square, and Castle courtyard.
The 13th February 2006
Three cities of Greater Poland - Wronki, Grodzisk Wielkopolski and Szamotuły - declared that they offered their sports bases for use for the duration of the European Football Championship in 2012. Representatives of the cities passed official guarantees on the 13th February 2006 in Poznań City Council regarding the provision of facilities, these documents being necessary for phase II of the UEFA EURO 2012TM.
The 1st March 2006
In the editorial office of "Rzeczpospolita" in Warsaw, there was a conference dedicated to preparations for the European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012™. At the conference were representatives of six Polish cities who fought to be the city-hosts of UEFA EURO 2012™. Poznań was represented by the Mayor of Poznań, Ryszard Grobelny, and his deputy Maciej Frankiewicz. The guests of the meeting were, amongst others, the Minister of Sport Tomasz Lipiec, also Neil Logan Green and Alister Graham from London, who presented the preparations of the United Kingdom for the Olympics 2012. During the meeting they discussed the necessary elements that must be included in Phase II of the application to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), showing that the offer of Poland and Ukraine was the best prepared.
The 13th March 2006
From 13th March 2006 to the end of the month on the streets of Poznań hung billboards, informing people that "Poznań Invests in Sport" and of efforts to organize games for the UEFA EURO 2012TM. The same billboards will also appear in Warsaw. The campaign was planned at a time when to Poland will come for a visit representatives of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), to take part in the seminar concerning UEFA EURO 2012TM.
The 31st March 2006
On 31st March 2006 Poznań documents confirming the fulfilment by the city of the requirements of UEFA for Phase II of efforts to organize UEFA EURO 2012™ were delivered to the Project Headquaters of EURO 2012 in Warsaw. These materials prepared in the City Council in the Department of Physical Culture and Tourism contained detailed information on subjects including amongst other things: the stadium, accommodation, security, marketing and media coverage.
The 4th April 2006
Representatives of the Poznań media signed a declaration supporting the idea of the organization in Poznań of ??the European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012TM. This document strengthens the competitiveness of Poznań among the other Polish cities which applied for the organization of the football finals.
The 24th April 2006
Project Headquarters for the Organization of European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012™ selected four cities best prepared to organize the UEFA EURO 2012™ in Poland. Poznań received the highest score - 48 points. Second, with an achievement of 40 points, was Warsaw.
The 12th September 2006
On 10-12 September, it was possible to sign a declaration of support for the organization of the European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012™ in Poland and Ukraine. All the signatures collected in six Polish cities (Poznań, Warsaw, Kraków, Chorzów, Wrocław and Gdańsk), were sent to UEFA. On 12th September the representatives of the Ranking Committee of UEFA visited Poznań, verifying the data submitted by Poland to UEFA, with Ukraine jointly submitting its candidacy to be a host of the European Football Championship in 2012.
The 15th February 2007
To UEFA in Nyon (Switzerland), were submitted the last documents of the candidates to host the finals of the European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012TM.
The 1st March 2007
The Polish-Ukrainian seminar concerning security and public order and cross-border traffic in the context of the joint organization of the European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012 was held in Poznań.
The 18th April 2007
In Cardiff, Michel Platini announced the host of the European Football Championship in 2012. UEFA EURO 2012™ will be organized by Poland and Ukraine. On Wolności Square waiting for the verdict of UEFA were: Mayor of Poznań, Ryszard Grobelny, councillors, the local government of the district and province, invited guests, the players of the Lech football team and crowds of Poznań inhabitants. After the decision was announced Poznań was ecstatic with joy.
