2012-04-26
Poznań is very consistent in building an image of a city that supports the development of design and ecology. The organizers of the official UEFA EURO 2012™ Fan Zone make every effort to combine the sport emotions with other activities that will additionally influence the unique atmosphere of this place. Today, we announce the winner of the competition for the "City Folding-chair", an eco-friendly seat for the Fan Zone guests, who will be able to enjoy the matches of UEFA EURO 2012TM in the company of their friends.
The implementation of the eco-design solutions in the Poznań Fan Zone will have not only a real impact on the protection of environment but also on the unique and incredible atmosphere of the place which Plac Wolności will become for a few weeks.
In just a moment our hearts will be lifted by football emotions, because first and foremost it is a European football celebration. However, we are sure that
the effort put into building the Fan Zone will bring many additional benefits for longer, it will influence the ecological conscience of Poznań's citizens and will promote our City as a European metropolis - said Michał Prymas, deputy CEO of EURO Poznań 2012 Sp. z o.o.
Co-creation of the Fan Zone
Poznań has an enormous potential in the field of ecology and design. That is why an idea has arisen to involve young, talented artists from not just Poznań but from all of Poland in a design contest for an original seat for the Poznań Fan Zone.
The idea to send in prototypes of seats has worked splendidly because the designers had a chance to create and at the same time evaluate the functionality of their project. The jury paid special attention to the sturdiness of the seat, minimal use of material, ease and intuitiveness of the folding, compactness and logic of the construction that all influence the general aesthetics of the City Folding-chair - said Czesława Frejlich, editor in chief of 2+3 quarterly and juror of the contest.
The contest was very popular, 31 projects form all around Poland have been entered. The winning project is characterized first and foremost by the ease of folding, it's largely intuitive and little material is used to make it. A big advantage of this project is the possibility to reuse it multiple time, as well as its convenience - said David Graas, Dutch designer and juror of the contest.
The winning City Folding-chair was designed by Arkadiusz Prusiński from Ostrołęka. Apart from the main, 5 000 PLN prize, the organizers awarded two additional 1000 PLN prizes. These were awarded ex aequo to Jacek Szymański from Tomaszów Mazowiecki and Sylwester Szymański from Poznań. The latter was also awarded an additional distinction for innovation and attractiveness of form of his project - the organization of an individual exhibition prepared with SPOT Foundation. From these three designs one will be chosen for production and use in the chill-out area of the Poznań Fan Zone.
All the entered designs will be available for viewing at a post-contest exhibition, which will take place in SPOT Poznań from 7.06 -1.07.2012.
Eco-consultant for the sport emotions
The involvement of David Graas, Dutch designer specializing in eco-design, does not end with the contest. After getting to know the character of the city, as well as the project for Poznań's UEFA EURO 2012™ Fan Zone, he proposed many innovative and environment-friendly solutions. Graas's vision focuses on such areas like recycling, multiple re-use of products, constructions and spaces as well as reducing the use of resources.
