Open lectures: "Gender, sexual orientation and a new exclusion policy," end "The impact of extreme neglect in early childhood on the development of the nervous system"

Faculty of Biology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the City of Poznań invite you to two open lectures which will take place on 9 September 2022:

  • at 9:45 a lecture entitled "Gender, sexual orientation and a new exclusion policy," will be delivered by Dr. Matthew Skinta
  • at 3:15 pm a lecture entitled "The impact of extreme neglect in early childhood on the development of the nervous system" will be delivered by Prof. Edmund Sonuga-Barke.

The lectures will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Adam Mickiewicz University, ul. Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego 8.

Dr. Matthew D. Skint, ABPP is a certified health psychologist and an assistant professor at Roosevelt University in Chicago. He is a certified trainer of ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), therapy based on functional analysis (FAP) and self-compassion improvement training (CCT). He conducts research and offers acceptance and mindfulness training and self-compassion therapy (CBT) to LGBTQIA+ people around the world. Together with Aisling Leonard-Curtin, he edited a book in 2016 entitled "Mindfulness and acceptance of gender and sexual minorities: a clinical guide to supporting compassion, bond, and equality using contextual strategies." In 2020 "Contextual behavioral therapy for LGBTQIA+ clients" was released under his editorship.

Prof. Edmund Sonuga is the Professor of developmental psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience at the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience, King's College London and an editor-in-chief of the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. Motivated by his own experience of growing up with learning disabilities, his research focuses on supporting children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders. The aim of his work is to develop new interventions by using approaches from the field of human development science to study genetic and environmental sources of risk and immunity, as well as neurobiological mechanisms mediating them. He was elected a member of prestigious scientific societies: Academy of Medical Sciences (2016) and Fellow of The British Academy (2018). Because of the importance of his research, Edmund Sonuga-Barke was included in Clarivate's list as one of the "most influential" psychologists/psychiatrists.
