Imperial Castle in Poznan is one of the youngest castles in Europe - construction was completed in 1910, as the residence of the German emperor Wilhelm II (Poznan in those days was under his rule). The emperor had at his disposal nearly 600 rooms, ceremonial throne room and a 75 meter tower. The whole is maintained in a monumental neoclassical style, which impresses visitors today as well.
Interiors of the castle are a great guide to the history of Polish and Poznan of the past 100 years, because each of its inhabitants has influenced at castle's form.
After Poland regained independence in 1918. The castle became the seat of the Poznan University and the residence of the Polish presidents.
During the Second World War the castle rooms have been rebuilt as headquarters of Adolf Hitler. However, he never visited then.
After the war, the castle was the seat of the city, and in 1962 became the center of culture
Currently, the former residence of the emperor is full of life. And this is due to working in the cultural institutions, including - Cultural Centre CASTLE (Centrum Kultury ZAMEK).
