Open lecture "Sophocles' Oedipus Rex in Sicily: The Performance of Tragedy in the Ancient World"

The Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the City of Poznań invite to an open lecture of Prof. Edmund Stewart, entitled 'Sophocles' Oedipus Rex in Sicily: The Performance of Tragedy in the Ancient World'. The lecture will be held on March 22, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at the Mickiewicz's salon of Collegium Maius, Fredry 10, Poznań.

Prof. Stewart published, despite his relatively young age, a number of important publications in the field of the history of Greek drama and Greek religious festival culture, as well as in the field of economic history, sociology and politics in ancient Greece. He also participated as an invited speaker at international conferences in Spain, Italy, France and Austria. His doctoral thesis on ancient drama was published in the Oxford University Press and received very good reviews, and a monograph on work and professionalism in Greece and Rome, co-edited with E. Harris and D. Lewis, has been published in the Cambridge University Press. Another monograph on the culture of professionalism in ancient Athens will be published soon by the Oxford University Press.
