Poznań Opens Major New Aquatic Center on May 29 on Taborowa Street

The eco-friendly complex in western Poznań will feature modern swimming, recreation and fitness facilities, as well as a dedicated saunarium opening later this summer. The long-awaited municipal swimming and wellness complex on Taborowa Street in the Grunwald district is designed to offer sports, rehabilitation and relaxation facilities for residents of all ages.

Opening Weekend of Grunwald Swimming Pool on Taborowa Street - Last Weekend of May

The new venue includes an eight-lane, 25-meter swimming pool, a recreational and teaching pool, a jacuzzi, fitness and rehabilitation rooms, as well as eco-friendly water recovery systems and photovoltaic panels. A separate saunarium with an independent entrance is also scheduled to open later this summer. The opening weekend will feature attractions including a water obstacle course, pool parties, lifeguard demonstrations, and activities for children, turning the launch into a city-wide recreational event.

Long-Awaited Swimming Pool Opening in Western Poznań

The new swimming pool is expected to become an important local hub for physical activity across all age groups. "According to our plans, the first guests will swim in the new pools still in May. We know how eagerly residents of western Poznań have been waiting for this. A facility close to home enables regular physical activity and can connect generations, from children learning to swim to seniors attending classes. We are also responding to current trends by introducing a saunarium that will offer a wide range of wellness options," said Marcin Gołek.

Modern Swimming Pool with Natural Light and Full Sports Facilities

The main hall of the facility features largeglazed sections allowing natural daylight to fill the interior. Visitors will have access to a 25-meter sports pool with eight lanes (25 × 16 m), as well as a smaller recreational and teaching pool consisting of two basins measuring 5 × 9 m. A jacuzzi is also available. "All water installations are fully operational, as confirmed during technical testing. The facility has received all necessary permits and passed acceptance procedures. Staff are now being trained to operate the building using modern systems. A particularly noteworthy feature is an ecological water recovery system that filters and reuses water from backwashing processes," said Justyna Litka.

Wellness, Fitness, and Family-Friendly Facilities

Beyond the swimming pools, the facility includes fitness and rehabilitation rooms, a steam bath, and a Finnish sauna. Additional infrastructure supports families and children, including changing rooms, showers, sanitary facilities, a play area for young children and a nursing room for mothers. The building also accommodates administrative offices, instructors, medical services and storage facilities supporting technical operations.

Eco-Friendly Design and Advanced Water Recovery System

The new swimming pool incorporates several environmentally friendly technologies. A rainwater retention tank and rooftop photovoltaic panels help reduce environmental impact. The water management system is among the most advanced of its kind in Poland. Water used for filter backwashing is collected, treated through a multi-stage purification process, including mechanical filtration, ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis and then reused to replenish overflow tanks. This allows for a water recovery rate of 70-80%, significantly reducing freshwater consumption and energy costs. Remaining wastewater is directed to the sanitary sewage system. The facility also includes a modern acoustic system improving sound comfort in the pool hall.

Accessible Facility for All Users

Pływalnia Grunwald has been designed as a fully accessible facility for people with disabilities. Features include tactile guidance systems, Braille signage, typhlographic maps, induction loops for hearing-impaired users, and adapted changing rooms and sanitary facilities. Special equipment, including assisted pool-entry seating, supports safe access to the water for users with limited mobility.

Saunarium Opening Scheduled for Summer

A key distinguishing feature of the facility will be a dedicated saunarium with a separate entrance, expanding the City's wellness offering. It is expected to open later this summer following the completion of finishing works, without affecting the operation of the main swimming pool.

Summer Programs and Year-Round Activities

The facility will be operated by Poznań Sports and Recreation Centres (Poznańskie Ośrodki Sportu i Rekreacji). Staff training and lifeguard preparation are currently underway. During the summer, the pool will host the "Summer Swimming Academy," while regular swimming lessons will resume after the holiday season. Users will be able to access the facility both individually and through organized programs, with registration opening in June.

Part of a Growing Network of Municipal Swimming Pools

Pływalnia Grunwald is part of a broader City investment strategy in sports infrastructure, following similar facilities already opened in Osiedle Piastowskie and Osiedle Zwycięstwa. The project was co-financed by the Polish Government's Strategic Investment Program.
