House no. 43

House No. 43Like House no. 42, it belonged to Doctor Walenty Reszka, who bought it in 1522 and had it rebuilt in the mid-sixteenth century, presumably with the assistance of the Italian craftsmen who were hired to erect the town hall. The remnants of the rich painted decoration discovered 25 years ago and, in particular, of the coffered ceiling decorated with sculpted human heads bear testimony to the owner's aspirations and social position.
Also worth noting is the diamond vault in the hall, a post-war reconstruction of the original vault pulled down in the early twentieth century. The neoclassical façade from 1818 was also reconstructed after the war.
The rich interior design of House 42 and 43 has prompted the idea to turn them into a museum of the Poznań bourgeoisie. However, due to insufficient funding, the idea has not been put into effect.
