2011-10-26
A new stage in the activity of the EURO Poznań 2012 team, which so far has been responsible for the modernisation of the City Stadium in Poznań, has commenced.. The team has received a new task from the city's authorities corresponding with its competences - organization of the Fan Zone during UEFA EURO 2012™.
In connection with signing a lease agreement, the Operator - Consortium KKS Lech and Marcelin Management will take over the administration of the City Stadium. The EURO Poznań 2012team, after successful conclusion of the works on the modernisation and establishment of a positive image for the City Stadium, now faces new tasks entrusted by the President of Poznań.
The will be involved in the organisation of the Fan Zone. This objective will be realized with substantive organisational support from the city hall during the procedure of selecting the zone operator and realizing the tasks of the zone operator. "Modernization of the stadium was an undertaking which involves many people and requires hard work. It was not easy. Such advanced projects as a stadium or a fan zone - the two most important places where the fans will enjoy their football celebration - require experience and exceptional involvement. Therefore, I entrusted this undertaking to the EURO Poznań 2012 team" declared Ryszard Grobelny, the President of Poznań.
The Poznań Fan Zone will be organized based on the experiences of the previous organizers of UEFA EURO: Austria and Switzerland, and shall be localized in the centre of the city, at Plac Wolności. This is the place which received the highest score in the multi-criteria analysis conducted by scientists from the Poznań's Technical University. The area of the zone will be 17,000 square metres. The Fan Zone will hold up to 30,000 persons at one time. Based on analyses and surveys conducted among the operators of fan zones functioning during the previous European championships, it is presumed that the Poznań Fan Zone will be visited by 500,000 people during its operation.
The Zone will have the relevant accompanying infrastructure, ensuring attractions not only for fans of football, but also for their families who are perhaps not as passionate about the sport. The Fan Zone will operate both for the city's residents, tourists and the fans of European teams, which will play their matches at the City Stadium.
The EURO Poznań 2012 team, having the experience of working with UEFA, benefitting from the experiences of its predecessors and being aware of the level and the scope of the new project, has formulated a few basic objectives connected with the organisation of the Fan Zone. The Fan Zone is to be a place attractive not only for the football fans. A rich artistic programme to be realized in the zone on non-match days aims to make the Fan Zone a universally liked and attractive city point. The Fan Zone will become a place, where all residents of Poznań and tourists will be able to celebrate the unique event for the city, that is UEFA EURO 2012.
Security is also a very important issue for EURO Poznań 2012. The Fan Zone will be organized strictly in accordance with the given principles of the Act on organizing mass events. The UEFA EURO 2012 team and the selected zone operator will supervise the activities of all the necessary public services such as: police, fire fighters, medical emergency units, etc. One of the basic objectives in the activities of the company connected with the Fan Zone will be, next to the joy of living through football emotions, ensuring the safety of both the participants of the sport fiesta and the city's residents.
The EURO Poznań 2012 team is starting a new period in its history. Next to providing additional functionalities and meeting UEFA requirements regarding the preparation of the stadium for EURO 2012, the most important task will be the supervision of the selection process for the zone operator and then the coordination of the activities of the operator and constant cooperation with UEFA in order to prepare the Fan Zone as professionally as possible.
