Discovery Channel behind the scenes of the Poznań City Stadium
2011-12-30
On 28-29 December 2011 the Poznań City Stadium hosted a team of filmmakers from the Discovery channel. In the course of making the "Behind the scenes of UEFA EURO 2012™" documentary, the lens of the camera peeked into places not available to fans on a daily basis.
"Behind the scenes of EURO 2012" is a series documenting the preparations, following the trademark Discovery formula of explaining the process and principles of operation. Such programmes are governed by their own rules. Here, the important thing is gaining specific knowledge following the pattern of "How do they do it?" says Elżbieta Ciszewska, the producer.
During the premiere screening planned for May 2012 viewers will be able to watch the work of engineers as they elevate the framework of the roof construction, peek into the stadium's control room, and take a close look at the everyday work of electricians operating the lighting of the City Stadium.
"The programme will also feature roads, airports, the preparations of the police and three selected stadiums in both Poland and Ukraine. Each stadium is different and has a unique feature of its own. What I love most about Poznań is the characteristic construction of the roofing which is covered with a membrane and the effect which can be obtained by lighting it in various colour configurations," says the director, Andrzej Słodkowski.
Poznań City Stadium is one of six arenas to be visited by the Discovery Channel team. The production of two episodes of the programme will involve 45 days of filming. After visiting Poznań, Gdańsk and Warsaw the team will relocate to Ukraine, where it will take a peek behind the scenes of the stadiums in Donetsk, Kiev and Lviv.
