The PKP Intercity Polish Pass system
2012-02-02
Tickets for travel on PKP Intercity trains will be available via the Polish Pass, prepared especially for people travelling across Poland during the UEFA EURO 2012™. With the use of one card, the user will be able to travel on all PKP Intercity trains nationwide. The offer is only available online, and the PKP Intercity train travelcard can be purchased for PLN 289.
The Polish Pass appeared in Poland in December 2011. The use of this system is based on simultaneous coding of several services on one card, providing a comprehensive package for nationwide travel during UEFA EURO 2012, e.g. booking accommodation, the purchase of medical insurance or tickets for various means of transport: municipal, air and rail. The Polish Pass, with the option of one PKP Intercity ticket, will entitle its holder to travel on all the trains operated by this carrier in Poland on a date selected by the traveller. The offer is available both to travellers from Poland and abroad.
The Polish Pass is already available online via www.polishpass.com.pl. After logging on and selecting the services required by the client in June of this year, all the data is encoded on a special named voucher. It has to be printed and presented if necessary on the means of transport or in hotels. In order to confirm the identity of the user, the voucher is verified with the document registered in the Polish Pass system. Remember that if you enter the passport number during the registration, you need to carry this document with you at all times.
With the Polish Pass, PKP Intercity offers three kinds of passes: 3-day, 7-day, or for the whole duration of the tournament, i.e. for 27 days. Each of the options allows travel on 2nd class domestic trains, within the period specified on the ticket.
"The regular price for return travel on an Express Intercity train from Warsaw to Gdańsk for one person is about PLN 260 and a return trip from Warsaw to Poznań will cost about PLN 255. This shows that using the Polish Pass offer and travelling only between the host cities it is possible to save not just a few per cent, but make a substantial saving! It is also worth noting that the PP is not only for fans, but also for everyone who enjoys train travel", says Piotr Pękała, PKP Intercity coordinator of the Polish Pass.
In addition, PKP Intercity is enabling all people who purchase the Polish Pass with an encoded train ticket to secure , seat reservations free of charge for travel on the trains which require them. With the Polish Pass, passengers will receive a free seat reservation for travel on Express Intercity (EIC), EC (EuroCity), Express (Ex) and TLK (Twoje Linie Kolejowe) trains. The seat reservation can be collected at a ticket office or printed from the online sale system up to 30 days before the planned journey. It is not needed in the case of travel on TLK trains which do not require a seat reservation.
Currently, the PKP Intercity Company is working on its transport package for the duration of UEFA Euro 2012. Initial assumptions for the schedule will already be known in February and the details will be announced to the public in March.
