One Internship Program - Lots Of Development Paths
- The main requirement of the scholarship program for students preparing to take up employment in Poznań is the joint submission of the application by the student and the company in which he/she will be the intern. This criterion makes it possible to finance internships that are carefully thought out by both the employer and the grantee. I think that thanks to this, the scholarship program of the City of Poznań goes to the right people, who later successfully develop themselves professionally - says Katarzyna Sobocińska, deputy director of the Investor Relations Department, and the initiator of the scholarships program for internships.
From a scholarship to... a startup - the story of Michał Paszyn
I learned about this internship program from a friend who was actively looking for various job opportunities. At that time, I was working at a company that seemed to be a suitable place for an internship, as well as subsequent employment. After talking with the company, it turned out that the internship program of the City of Poznań is the perfect solution for us. After the successful completion of the internship period, the company expressed its willingness to continue cooperation with me based on an employment contract.
Finally, after some time, I decided to start my own business. In cooperation with friends, we have started innovative startup projects - our activities are related to various areas of both the B2B and B2C spheres. One of these projects is BudgetBee, which, based on the participatory budget operation model, aims at supporting companies and employees in managing employee benefits.
We decided that the internship program for students will be good support both for us and for our potential employees. Thanks to my previous experience and an efficient scholarship process, we were able to recruit another valuable team member. In the future, we also plan to use this program, which is an ideal solution for both companies and future employees - students.
Strong support in hiring new employees - Wavin Shared Services Sp. z o. o., Paulina Małecka
So far, we have organized as many as 7 internships in the program organized by the City of Poznań. The first one started in 2017 and the employee is a member of Wavin Shared Services Sp. z o.o. to this day and now is a Manager. He showed outstanding skills that were very quickly noticed and appreciated.
As many as five people, or almost 72% of interns taking internships in our company, have been cooperating with us to this day. Two people who were interns years ago now hold managerial positions. The remaining 3 people are specialists and still receive from us great opportunities for development and a realistic career path. All people who have decided to stay in the organization work on the basis of an employment contract.
One of the interns, who started the internship in June 2018, studied a field completely unrelated to the profile of our company, and she was not interested in the financial industry. It turned out that thanks to the internship, which allowed her to explore a completely new area, with which she had never had contact before, she found her professional path.
We find new interns who send us their CVs and express their willingness to participate in the recruitment process mainly through recruitment websites. Cooperation with universities is also a good source of gaining potential candidates. Our employees are another information channel. We encourage them to spread information about the internship program to their friends.
The internship program gives us the opportunity to recognize the employee's competencies, his/her skills and preferences, and how to cope with working situations under time pressure. It turns out that many applicants demonstrate the values highly valued by us, and thanks to this, we are able to offer a position tailored to the expectations of a young intern and ensure him/her continued development in our organization.
Implementation in the profession of an architect - Adam Szymaniak
The internship was the start of my career in the profession of an architect. I got a job at the RHplus architekci design office in Poznań. During the internship, I was introduced to the company's work standards, I got to know the software, which is an important tool of an architect's work, and I started to learn how to use the theoretical knowledge acquired during my studies in practice. Gradually, I am entrusted with more and more complex and responsible tasks. However, I am still gaining invaluable experience in the profession of an architect and the necessary technical and legal knowledge.
First of all, the internship showed me what an architect's job really looks like. It was the first opportunity for me to confront my ideas about the profession and the actual image of this job. I gained general knowledge about the industry and had the opportunity to observe and collaborate with experienced architects. The internship showed me my strengths and shortcomings that I could work on. Commitment and diligent implementation of the entrusted tasks resulted in signing an employment contract after the internship. I am still employed in the office today.
Getting the scholarship was quite simple. The completed application had to be sent to the office within a specified period. After its examination, an agreement was concluded between the scholarship recipient, the company, and the city. After completing the 6-month internship, it was enough to submit an employment contract with the company.
Financial support for companies
As representatives of the Wavin company argue, the internship program "Scholarships for internships" brings a measurable benefit also for employers - acquiring valuable employees. - In addition, the program allows you to receive additional funds and relieve the company's budget. At the same time, from the very beginning, we can familiarize the student with the nature of the future work - says Paulina Małecka.
