- World Congresses of Political Sciences, which take place every two years, are the most important event for political scientists, and their location is a prestigious distinction for academic centres being hosts - convinces Prof. Dorota Piontek from the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań - It also means recognition for organising cities and an ideal opportunity to promote them. It is worth adding that it is the first time when the World Congress of Political Sciences will be held in Central-Eastern Europe, which is an additional cause for satisfaction for the environment of Polish political scientists.
Poznań is on a winning streak, there are more and more events of international importance held there. Last year we managed to acquire the World Congress of Historians, in September of this year the FDI world dental convention will take place, which will be the largest medical congress in the history of Poland. Now we have managed to win a prestigious symposium of political sciences.
- We are pleased all the more because this is the event which we will be able to be proud of for many years, and on the other hand it is organised in an atypical time, namely in the second half of July. Our congress guests will become convinced what a beautiful city Poznań is in the summer, and additionally the Poznań hotels will be full of guests out of the congress season - emphasises Jan Mazurczak, the President of Poznań Tourism Organisation, who participated in the process of acquiring the congress for Poznań.
- Another so important congress reinforces the image and recognisability of Poznań as a reliable partner of such events. We have at our disposal not only an excellent base in the form of e.g. Fair, but also a better cultural and tourist offer. Events of this type attract next ones - thinks Mariusz Wiśniewski, the Deputy President of Poznań.
The main topic of the 24th World Congress is politics in the world of inequality. It is a challenge which politicians worldwide have to face, and the congress is an opportunity to again prove usefulness of social sciences in shaping real politics.
International Political Science Association (IPSA) was established in 1949 under the auspices of UNESCO. It gathers political scientists from around the world representing not only universities, but also environments of analysts and political advisers. In IPSA, 42 national associations involved with political science are united, including the Polish Political Science Association (PTNP). Prof. Tadeusz Wallas, the dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism in Poznań, is a member of the management board of PTNP.
