Muzeum Powstania Poznańskiego - Czerwiec 1956 (Museum of Poznań Uprising of June 1956)

Description

The exhibition presents the history of the first mass protests by Poznań workers in communist Poland. Visitors will see photographs from the uprising and protester memorabilia, hear their recorded memories and interrogation accounts and learn about the subsequent trials.

All this takes place in specially-decorated spaces: a 1950s flat, a factory hall, a street, a prison cell and a courtroom. The museum is housed in the basement of the Imperial Castle, which served as the seat of the Municipal National Council that adjoined the edifice of the Regional Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party in 1956. As one of its initiatives, the Museum launched the "Light for June 1956" campaign to commemorate the protesters.
