In the field of waste management the city of Poznań follows the programme solutions of the developed states in the European Union. It undertakes actions in the vital issue of environment protection against waste on the basis of the programme provisions of the Waste Management Plan for the City of Poznań adopted for the first time on 22 June 2004. The current plan was amended and adopted on 17 July 2007.
Coherent actions lead to the organisation of modern, integrated system of waste management. What is worth stressing is:
- the organisation of efficient system of selective waste collection at the source and the collection of problem-raising and hazardous waste, e.g. in the field of the collection of used electric and electronic equipment, large-size waste, batteries and expired drugs,
- the creation of safe, ecological landfill which conforms to the EU requirements and standards,
- numerous educational and informative actions.
The works are currently conducted on the modernisation of the waste management system by the construction of thermal waste treatment plant to be built in the years 2013-2017 and financed with the support of European Union funds.
The works are also conducted on the Programme for the treatment of products and waste containing asbestos which is to be prepared in 2008.
