In Poznan, there are nearly 240.1 thousand dwellings with a total usable area of 15.5 million sq. m. The average usable area of any one dwelling consists of 64.4 sq. m. Any one dwelling has an average of 3.4 premises, in which 2.32 people live on average, with 0.67 people per one premise. Over 80% of residents live in multi-family buildings. In addition, nearly half of the dwellings (43%) were built before 1970, 34% in the years 1971-1988, and 23% after 1989. Poznan's dwellings differ in respect of equipment. The majority of them include a bathroom (96%), running water (99.7%), hot running water (93%), network gas (88%) and collective or individual central heating (85.5%). Furthermore, the majority of the dwellings are private property (56%) and belong to housing cooperatives (36%). Municipal apartments constitute over 5.7% of the total number of dwellings.

Nearly 3 thousand new dwellings are constructed annually, mostly in the vicinity of Naramowice, Lazarz and Piatkowo. The structure of new residential housing is dominated by developers (80% of completed dwellings) and individual investors (19%).
