The Shanghai ranking assesses universities based on several key criteria, such as the number of Nobel Prize and Fields Medal winners, the number of publications in Nature and Science journals, and analysis of data from the Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index databases.
Compared to last year, UAM recorded an increase in one of the three indicators in which it is included, and small decreases in the other two. They evaluate the following aspects:
· publications in Nature and Science (N&S): 6 points (+0.3);
· papers indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index of the Web of Science database (PUB): 25,0 (-0.1);
· staff scientific activity (PCP): 9,1 (-0.1).
UAM did not score in the following indicators:
· quality of education measured by the number of graduates (Alumni) - winners of the most prestigious scientific prizes (Nobel Prize and Fields Medal). The number is scaled by the year in which the bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree was obtained so that the most recent achievements have the greatest impact on the score.
· Quality of Faculty is a composite criterion consisting of two equally weighted indicators:
o Award - the numbers of Nobel Prize winners (physics, chemistry, medicine and economics) and Fields Medals (mathematics) who were employees of the university at the time of winning the prize (here again, recent achievements have the greatest impact on the outcome);
o HiCi - the numbers of the world's most cited academics who are university employees, selected by Clarivate's Institute for Scientific Information.
