Sustainable Development in the Strategy of the City of Poznań

Achieving sustainable development goals is a key element of Poznań's development strategy. This document continues the previously established directions of action, taking into account various conditions as well as the needs of the city and its residents. The goal of Poznań's development strategy is not only to improve the quality of development policies but also to encourage the local community to actively participate in social and economic life.

City Priorities: Environment, Education, and Innovation

The strategy emphasizes that sustainable development is one of the city's top priorities. It addresses issues such as climate change, environmental protection, and ecological education. These topics are also linked to economic development areas, including support for entrepreneurship, investment in business infrastructure, and collaboration between academia and the private sector in the commercialization of scientific research results. These were also topics frequently raised during public consultations.

Green Investments at the Core of the City Budget

Green investments play a crucial role in the city's development and budget planning. The "Poznań 2040 Vision" envisions the city as a dynamically developing center that successfully combines modern technologies with sustainable development principles, joining the ranks of Europe's leading cities.

Poznań has allocated over 497 million PLN to environmental protection and municipal services, of which more than 41 million PLN went toward maintaining green spaces. These funds have been used for projects such as modernizing and creating new parks, removing excess paved surfaces from public spaces, building a bee-friendly garden in Cytadela Park, and constructing a retention reservoir in Łacina. Additionally, over 22.8 million PLN has been allocated to air and climate protection initiatives.

One of the city's key environmental investments is the redevelopment of the Poznań Palm House, financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO) via Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, with nearly 163 million PLN secured for the project. The redevelopment includes replacing the glass panels of the exhibition pavilions to improve natural lighting and reduce energy consumption, modernizing the central heating system, upgrading underground utilities, and implementing advanced climate, lighting, and multimedia control systems.

Another important component of Poznań's green infrastructure is the retention reservoir and park in Łacina, combining ecological and recreational functions - with leisure areas, cycling infrastructure, and systems supporting rainwater retention.

Sustainable Development as a Necessity for the Future

The implementation of such investments and the inclusion of sustainable development as a key element of the city's strategy demonstrate that these issues are a priority for Poznań. Actions in this field bring numerous benefits - they promote modern standards, have a positive impact on local communities, attract investors, and stimulate innovation. Sustainable development is no longer merely an option but a necessity that determines the city's continued growth and the creation of better living conditions for its residents.
