On January 23rd, AMU professor, Bogdan Marciniec PhD received an Honorary Doctorate from the Lodz University of Technology! Congratulations, Professor!
Bogdan Marciniec (born: 4 February 1941) is a chemist, full professor of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań its former Rector and member of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences, founder and director of Poznan Science & Technology Park (this was the first institution of this kind in Poland in 1995).
He established a research centre of world renown in organometallic
chemistry and catalysis by metal complexes in Poznań. He is the
author or co-author of over 300 publications and scientific articles
printed in the great majority in foreign specialist magazines, he is
the editor of 15 books (9 in English) and author of 120 patents and
patent applications of 42 technologies. 20 years ago he established
one of the first spin offs - Tarnów-Mościce - Innovation and

We are very happy to announce that dr Agata Głuszyńska from our group has been awarded a grant (12.2011-11.2014) within the PARENT-BRIDGE programme of Foundation for Polish Science, cofinanced from European Union, Regional Development Fund. Program implemented as a part of the Innovative Economy Operational Programme.
The project "Synthesis of new carbazole ligands, potential inhibitors of telomerase in antitumor therapy" proposed is a fragment of a wider program of studies on synthesis of new ligands interacting with nucleic acids for biotechnological and bioanalytical purposes and is consistent with PO IG priority theme of "new medical products and techniques". The research task will be carried out in cooperation with the group of doc. Zofia Gdaniec from the Institute of Biorganic Chemistry PAS in Poznan and with the research group of Prof. Maria Rybczynska from the Department of Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics (University of Medical Sciences in Poznan). Students interested in organic chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry are invited to consider the project in PARENT-BRIDGE programme.

AMU in CSIC ranking!
Adam Mickiewicz University has been ranked in The Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas - CSIC) in Madrid. CSIC is the largest Spanish public institution dedicated to research on teaching quality and learning practices.
The CSIC main objectives is to develop and promote research helping and bringing progress in scientific and technological field. Institution works in collaboration with prestigious foreign entitles in order to achieve those aims.
To overhaul and choose the best institutions, CSIC took into consideration more than 20,000 universities in the world. In the final classification, Adam Mickiewicz University has placed the 928th position, as one of seven Polish universities.
According to a report made by Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, only about 14 per cent of the 448 Polish universities are conducting scientific research.
Among prestigious universities, in addition to AMU, CSIC ranking included other, following universities and academic institutions: Jagiellonian University in Krakow, University of Warsaw, Warsaw University of Technology, Wrocław University of Technology, AGH University of Science and Technology and University of Wrocław.

Google Online Marketing Challenge
Two teams from our University successfully participated in the 5th Google Online Marketing Challenge, advanced into Top 15 European Teams. One of the teams even awarded place in the regional final and took place in Top 5 of our continent.
Our teams prepared for the competition for 6 months under the care of PhD Wojciech Czart.
Congratulations for our collegues from Warsaw School of Economics who won whole competition!

Team Flexify's third place in Imagine Cup 2012
Team Flexify from AMU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science was ranked third in the "Kicect Fun Lab Challenge" category in the Imagine Cup 2012 Worldwide Finals.
106 teams from 75 different countries competed in this year finals. Students spent a week in Sydney, Australia presenting their projects which in most cases took months to complete. Each project gave a unique solution to one of the toughest issues facing the world today. Projects covered wide range of topics from help for people with disabilities to dismantling landmines. Students from all over the world created their projects with hope that technology can help to create a better future for everyone.
Team Flexify representing AMU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science created an interactive game which was designed to help kids in kinesiotherapy. The game's name "Reh the Dragon" was inspired by a popular children's book. The game joins the kinesiotherapic exercises with lots of fun which results in enhancing kid's strength, endurance and mobility. AMU team included Tomasz Malesza, Marek Banaszak, Adam Kuczyński, Michał Kulikowski, Piotr Kowalczyk and Tomasz Gdala (mentor). Creators of the game plan to commercialize their project.

AMU Honorary doctorate for J. M. Coetzee
On May 9th, 2012 John Maxwell Coetzee was awarded an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) by the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. J. M. Coetzee, born 1940, is a South African novelist, essayist, linguist, translator and recipient of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Literature. Mr. Coetzee is also a double laureate of the Booker Prize.
J. M. Coetzee is characterized as a scrupulous doubter, ruthless in his criticism of the cruel rationalism and cosmetic morality of western civilization (The Nobel Foundation, 2003). His writing raises difficult topics of South African culture and literature as well as the universal ideas of guilt and forgiveness (Tomaszkiewicz, 2012: 72). J.M. Coetzee writings belong to universal heritage both with regard to their contents as well as their form. His works are praised for their well-crafted composition, swift dialogues and analytical brilliance.
The Honoris Causa ceremony took place in Lubrański Hall at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The Laudatio for Mr Coetzee was given by professor Liliana Sikorska.

Their project - "Reh the Dragon" - is an interactive game which is designed to help kids in kinesitherapy.
AMU team consists of Tomasz Malesza, Marek Banaszak, Adam Kuczyński, Michał Kulikowski, Piotr Kowalczyk and Tomasz Gdala (mentor). The top three teams each won a trip to the Worldwide Finals in Sydney, Australia where the first, second, and third place teams will be announced on 10 July 2012.
