Joshua Karton is a full professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Program Development at the Queen's University Faculty of Law in Kingston, Canada. He holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University, a Juris Doctor (JD) from Columbia University, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. Prior to commencing his doctoral studies, he practiced as a commercial disputes lawyer in New York and Hong Kong.
Professor Karton's research focuses on how parties from different legal, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds resolve disputes. He is the author of the highly regarded monograph The Culture of International Arbitration and the Evolution of Contract Law (Oxford University Press, 2013), as well as the author or editor of four additional books and numerous articles published in leading academic journals. He is a member of the International Academy of Comparative Law and a frequent speaker at academic and industry conferences around the world. In addition to his academic work, Professor Karton also serves as an arbitrator in both domestic and international commercial disputes.
