School of Form at the London Fashion Week

The "Waste Not" exhibition is a selection of projects made by students of fashion design from the last two semesters. - When selecting the works for evaluation by the jury, I have noticed a very frequent fascination with old techniques: lacing, macramé, painting on silk - says Wojciech Dziedzic, curator of the exhibition and head of the fashion design faculty at the School of Form - Students boldly use existing clothing as a starting point for creating their own collections, manifest local patriotism, and they do not hesitate to pose uncomfortable questions.
A unique perspective on fashion, as well as the use of non-obvious solutions and techniques results from the approach to training future fashion designers that is characteristic of the School of Form. The focus is put on man and their needs in a social and cultural context. Students learn them by studying anthropology and sociology, philosophy and psychology. They explore the relationships between clothing and body, examine the relationships that bind fashion with the society. History and tradition, as well as old handicraft techniques learnt in the classes, constitute a starting point for them, an inspiration to explore new techniques and materials, and above all an individual language. They are aware that this is the only way to exist as designers, drawing on the local cultural experiences, looking for ways out of the global fashion market crisis.
