The Culture Map of Poznań, or what do young Poznanians get up to?

The most popular events are those co-organised or supported by the City of Poznań. Young people seem to enjoy Juwenalia (students' holiday), the Long Night of Museums, St. Marcin Street Name Day and large outdoor festivals including Malta, Transatlantyk or Pyrkon. St. John's Fair is also very popular, so is the Poznań Game Arena. On behalf of the Local Government of Poznań, scientists from the Regional Observatory of Culture (AMU) examined over 2,000 graduates and students, obtaining results that constituted the basis for The Culture Map of Poznań.

The team of over 20 local researchers as well as experts from the UK, the Netherlands and Hungary united their forces within the framework of "The Culture Map of Poznań" project.

In an attempt to understand the social views on cultural public sphere, the research team questioned a representative sample of 2078 high school graduates and students in Poznań. In total, the interviewers contacted the students of 55 different university courses at 12 higher education institutions in Poznań and the pupils from 27 high schools in Poznań.

Foreign experts who knew Poznań as one of many European cities were invited to take part in the research. It was a pioneering solution which meant that the summary of research results was entrusted for interpretation to specialists from the UK, the Netherlands and Hungary, representing various fields of the social sciences.

According to the British expert, in the European context, Poznań's cultural landscape is impressive in terms of quality, quantity and diversity. Poznań does not differ in this aspect from other cities of comparable size, including Gothenburg, Zaragoza, Glasgow, Leipzig, Genoa and Rotterdam; moreover, in some aspects Poznań appears to be even more dynamic than its European competitors.
