He stands in the centre of "Wiosna Ludów" Square, right next to the Poznań Merchant. The sculpture depicts the fictional Old Marych, a typical former inhabitant of Poznań speaking in Poznań dialect, created by Juliusz Kubel for the  Poznań Poliish Radio station.. It is rumoured that he brings luck to cyclists, which is why every cyclist planning to tour Poznań should first touch Old Marych. Exactly one year prior to UEFA EURO 2012™, he was wearing a colourful scarf with the inscription "One Year to Go" enticing the people of Poznań to celebrate.
