The Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Vocal Performance, Music Theory and Artistic Education at the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, in collaboration with the City of Poznań, invites you to an open lecture by Prof. Michael Tsalka, entitled "A Performer's Perspective of J. S. Bach on Record". The lecture's date and time are set for 21 May at 10 a.m. The venue is the Chamber Hall of the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music, which is located at ul. Św. Marcin 87. The lecture will be translated into Polish.

Michael Tsalka is currently working as a professor at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He is a member of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences (EASA) in Salzburg, Chairman of the Board of the European Fortepiano Museum and Academy (EFM) in Germany, a visiting professor at the Celaya Conservatory in Guanajuato, Mexico, and an artist in residence at the NCMA in New Zealand (2024, 2025).

Prof. Tsalka has won numerous prizes in Europe, Asia, North America, and Latin America. He is a versatile musician who performs repertoire from the early Baroque era to present days. He was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and studied in Germany, Italy, and the USA. His mentors included Lambert Orkis, Joyce Lindorff, Harvey Wedeen; Dario di Rosa, Klaus Schilde, Malcolm Bilson, David Shemer and Charles Rosen. Dr. Tsalka maintains a busy concert schedule, performing circa 100 concerts a year worldwide. He performed concerts in Beijing Forbidden City, Bellas Artes Theater in Mexico City, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, St. Denis Festival in Paris, Beethoven House in Bonn, Tokyo's City Opera, National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Volksbühne in Berlin, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the ElbPhilharmonie in Hamburg, and additionally live performances for radio/television stations around the globe (Chicago, Buenos Aires, Munich, Stockholm, Helsinki, Brussels, Geneva, Canberra, London).

Together with musicologist Dr. Angélica Minero Escobar, he has prepared a critical edition of Daniel Gottlob Türk's 30 keyboard sonatas for Artaria Editions in New Zealand. Additionally, ten (10) of his scholarly articles have been published by music journals, in Italy, the USA, and the Netherlands. He has recorded 40 critically acclaimed CDs of repertoire ranging from Baroque to modern for such labels as Naxos, Grand Piano, Paladino, Brilliant Classics, Wirripang, IMI and Tempus Classico. 80 contemporary compositions have been dedicated to him by composers from all over the world.

Prof. Tsalka has directed festivals in China, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Finland. He has also taught in the USA, Mexico City, Stockholm, and New Zealand. He has taught 160 masterclasses at academic institutions across all continents. The 2025 highlights include performances at the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM) in Vienna with Musica Florea, at St John's College in Sydney, at the Divertimento Music Festival in Mexico City, at the Paderewski Academy in Poznań, and at Auckland University. There will also be five CD releases in Mexico City, Sydney, Vienna, Beijing, and Italy. The prestigious institutions around the world have often offered Dr Tsalka's students full scholarships and awards, and many of them have been accepted by these institutions.
