Prof. dr Larry Nelson jest współzałożycielem Fundacji i Stowarzyszenia Badań nad Wyłaniającą się Dorosłością. Jest autorem licznych publikacji poruszających problem wychowania w dynamicznie zmieniających się warunkach społeczno-kulturowych XXI w. Prowadził badania dotyczące młodych wchodzących w dorosłość w Stanach Zjednoczonych oraz w Chinach. Wyniki swoich badań prezentował na konferencjach m. in. w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Kanadzie, Meksyku, Australii, Belgii, Niemczech, Litwie, Szwajcarii oraz Chinach.
