Prof. Smaro Kamboureli (Canada - study of literature) is a world-renowned Canadian literary scholar, researcher in contemporary Canadian literature - with a particular focus on multiculturalism, diaspora literature and postcolonial issues in this literature. In addition, her research includes a broadly defined literary field in Canada, in particular the publishing policy and market, as well as connections between literature and the publishing policy and the state cultural policy. Her research and practical interests lie also in university teaching.
As a researcher in literature, Prof. Kamboureli is the author of highly regarded books and papers, including the methodologically sophisticated monograph Scandalous Bodies: Diasporic Literature in English Canada (2000) which received the Gabrielle Roy Prize for Canadian Criticism. She has initiated new trends and activities in the community of Canadian literary scholars - for instance through her esteemed research project TransCanada aimed at reflecting on the state of literary studies and the teaching of literature in Canada, as well as at inspiring new research approaches, including a shift away from the strongly dominant national context towards research that puts Canadian literature within a broader literary and cultural field of the globalizing world. Prof. Kamboureli is also an accomplished editor of publishing series and numerous collections of papers.
Prof. Kamboureli is a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
