Milica Markić, a graduate of the Polish Studies at the University of Belgrade, member of the Serbian Literature Translators Association since 2004. She is an outstanding translator of the Polish literature into Serbian. For twenty-five years, she has been tirelessly translating Polish literature and is highly appreciated by her authors, publishers and readers. So far, she has translated nearly 40 books from the Polish literature (novels, volumes of poetry and dramas, as well as philosophical, translational and theological books). Her oeuvre includes both literary classics (Henryk Sienkiewicz, Stanisław Grochowiak, Witold Gombrowicz, Bruno Schulz, Halina Poświatowska, Andrzej Bursa) as well as contemporary, living authors (Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki, Julia Fiedorczuk, Janusz Drzewucki, Krzysztof Varga, Andrzej Stasiuk, Andrzej Sapkowski, Natalia Fiedorczuk, Anna Augustyniak and others).

Above all, Markić is a translator of ten books by the Polish Nobel laureate for 2018 - Olga Tokarczuk. It should be clearly emphasised that Milica Markić has been translating the prose of the Polish Nobel Prize winner for over a dozen years. Her excellent literary taste and deep, expert discernment in the Polish literature is evidenced by the fact that, without waiting for the verdict of the Nobel Committee for many years from the beginning of the 21st century, she has been translating the prose of Tokarczuk in the Balkan region, which is most frequently represented in the language of the Southern Slavs. It is also worth emphasising that Milica Markić has an excellent linguistic sense and a high criterion for selecting the translated authors. Thanks to her translation efforts, the Serbian and other recipients from the former Yugoslavia region - from Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina - have been acquainted with the greatest achievements of the Polish writers for 25 years. Markić has a great influence on the image of the Polish literature in the Balkans.
