Prof. John Vervaeke (Toronto) - 29.09.2023

The Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań invite to an open lecture by prof. John Vervaeke entitled "Neoplatonism and Cognitive Science in the Romantic Revival in Owen Barfield." The lecture will take place on September 29, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at Collegium Maius, ul. Fredry 10.

Prof. John Vervaeke graduated in philosophy (1985) and cognitive science (1991) from the University of Toronto, where he received his PhD in philosophy in 1997. He conducts interdisciplinary research combining cognitive science methodology with philosophy. His interests include the philosophical and psychological context of meditation and spirituality, the relationship between attention, sense of meaning and wisdom. He is a valued educator and has received a number of awards, including: Ranjini Ghosh Excellence in Teaching Award (2012) and the Prime Minister of Canada award in the competition for the best academic teacher (2006). At his alma mater he gave a series of lectures "Awakening from the Meaning Crisis", broadcast via YouTube. He is currently conducting a series of lectures entitled "After Socrates".
