Professor Herbert Mang (TU Wien, Austria) is a world-famous researcher with outstanding scientific and organizational achievements for the development of science and international cooperation. The area of the professor's research is mechanics of materials and structures.  He is the author/co-author of 500+ scientific articles and 23 books (including 15 as a co-editor), he delivered 60 plenary lectures and 35 keynote lectures (in total 500+ presentations at scientific conferences). He is a member of 20 scientific academies in Europe and in other parts of the world, he is an editor/member of the publishing councils of 30+ scientific journals. He was decorated on numerous occasions and he achieved many distinctions, among others: he received the honorary degree from six European universities, Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, Euler-Medal of the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences, Newmark-Medal of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Professor Herbert Mang receives high recognition and respect in Poland for the results of his research and activities supporting the development of science and scientists in Poland.  A testimony of this are, among others: being a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, honorary degree of the Cracow University of Technology, the Medal of the O.C. Zienkiewicz Polish Association for Computational Mechanics and the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
