The Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the City of Poznań invite you to participate in an open lecture by Prof. Irina Adelgejm. The lecture entitled "The words will save us...Novel as autotherapy, will be held on 26 October (Wednesday) 2016, at 16:00 at the seat of the Poznań Society of Friends of Sciences, ul. Mielżyńskiego 7.

Prof. Irina Adelgejm investigates Polish belles-lettres, the issues of the Polish-Russian literary relations and stereotypes, relations of languages and their psychological aspects and also deliberates on the issues of national myths. She has created a concept of "psychological language". She dedicated many of her works to the issues of Polish Romanticism and Positivism, to Polish cinema and translation theory. For her merits for the promotion of Polish prose, and, more extensively, culture, in Russia she was awarded with "Polish Pegasus" (2011) and "Gold Cross of Merit" (2013).

Professor Irina Adelgejm was born in 1971 in Moscow. In 1992, she graduated from Slavic Languages and Literature at the Moscow State University, in 1995 defended her doctoral thesis and in 2005 was awarded the degree of habilitated doctor. She investigates Polish belles-lettres, the issues of the Polish-Russian literary relations and stereotypes, relations of languages and their psychological aspects, also deliberates on the issues of national myths. She has created a concept of "psychological language". She dedicated many of her works to the issues of Polish Romanticism and Positivism, to Polish cinema and translation theory.

She is an outstanding translator of Polish literature into Russian, she has translated the works by, inter alia,: G. Herling-Grudziński, P. Huelle, A. Stasiuk, W. Tochman, T.Różewicz, O. Tokarczuk, M. Wilk, M. Tulli, E. Kuryluk, K. Orłoś, T. Słobodzianek, H. Krall, M. Bieńczyk, J. Bargielska, I. Karpowicz and many more.

For her merits for the promotion of Polish prose, and, more extensively, culture, in Russia she was awarded with "Polish Pegasus" (2011) and "Gold Cross of Merit" (2013).

Irina Adelgejm is also the author of excellent publications on Polish literature, including two monographs (Polskaja proza mieżwojennogo dwadcatiletija: mieżdu Zapadom i Rossijej. Fienomien psichologiczeskogo jazyka, Moscow 2000; Poetika 'promieżutka': mołodaja polskaja proza 1989 goda, Moscow 2005) and more than 100 articles. Her contribution to building the Polish-Russian cultural relations is undisputable and her original and innovative style of translation is highly appreciated internationally.
