Prof Dr Bertrand Matthäus (Germany) 5.10.2017

Poznań University of Life Sciences and Poznań City Hall invite for an open lecture by Prof Dr Bertrand Matthäus. The lecture "Profiling of volatile compounds of virgin rapeseed oils to SPME and dynamic headspace as a powerful tool for the evaluation of sensors and quality factors impairing this quality" shall take place on 5 October 2017 (Thursday) at 10.00 in Colegium Rungego at Wojska Polskiego Street 52.

Prof Dr Bertrand Matthäus is the vice director of the Institute of Safety and Quality of Cereal Products and the manager of Research Institute for Fats in Federal Institute of Food and Nutrition Research - Max Rubner Institute in Detmold (Germany). This world-famous specialist in the field of analytics and edible fats quality has significant achievements in the field of formation and impact of 3 MCPD on human health and marking their concentrations in food. Prof Dr Matthäus has developed a strategy of reducing the formation of 3 MCPD esters and glycidyl esters in edible oils and fats.

In addition, he has numerous scientific achievements in the field of vegetable oils research. He is the author and the co-author of 151 scientific works within the field of food sciences which were released in magazines on the JCR list.

Dr. Matthäus has developed parameters for the quality of cold pressed rape oil with particular focus on the sensory evaluation and the correlation between sensory impressions and the profile of volatile compounds. Throughout many years of his professional career, he has created and still creates a base of fatty acids composition for oilseeds.

In addition, Dr. Matthäus has been providing the opportunity to complete scientific internships in his laboratory (e.g. Erasmus, Erasmus+ and NCN Etiuda project). He acted as a supervisor of scientific doctoral candidates at the University of Life Sciences in Poznań.
